UVO SYSTEM - ORIGIN MOD CLONE FROM FASTTECH

I purchased this mod myself from Fasttech, all views expressed in this review are my own and are what I believe to be true, honest and accurate.

This mod was purchased from fasttech, there is various versions avalible including a brass version, this one is sku 1547400 and is priced at $21.15 (£12.64).

WARNING! Mechanical mods are not recommended to anyone new to vaping. Anyone wishing to enter the mechanical mod scene should at least take note on these basic safety notes:

• ALWAYS Use IMR batteries (lithium manganese) as the chemistry is safer due to it being less volatile, I highly recommend using Efest Purple High Discharge Rate Batteries from myEpack.

• Do NOT use unprotected standard lithium-ion (ICR - lithium cobalt oxide) batteries without a kick (see below about kicks), as these have a greater risk of overheating which can cause venting.

• ALWAYS check your atomisers Ohms before use especially when a new coil is installed and regularly during use to ensure a short situation has not occurred or that resistance isn't too low. For safety reasons, we recommend using atomisers that have a coil resistance of no less than 1 Ohm.

ALWAYS DO YOUR HOMEWORK ON MECHANICAL MODS AND HOW TO USE THEM SAFELY BEFORE USE!

MOD PRESENTATION

This particular model comes in a black presentation box which features the UVO SYSTEMS logo and has a magnetic seal, inside is the mod fully assembled in full 18650 mode including the kick tube set inside a black foam insert.

With the basics out the way we'll start from the top and work our way down the mod.

TOP CAP & 510 CONNECTION

The top cap comprises of 4 parts, silver plated brass floating centre pin, top cap and 510 connection, derlin insulator and beauty ring. With the top cap fully assembled measures in at 21mm wide.

There's two slots on the top cap it's self to assist in air flow to atomisers that don't have their own air flow control, these slots line up perfectly to an air hole on the beauty ring linking up with the 510 connection.

The beauty ring itself can be flipped over, this does nothing to how the air flow works but gives a different aesthetic to the top cap.

Having a floating centre pin is really handy as the pin adjusts to the atomiser attached ensuring a flush to near flush fit and reduces the likelihood of any battery rattle.

MAIN BODY TUBES

Included with this version of the Origin is three 21mm diameter battery tubes which when used in different combinations will allow for these different battery configurations 18350,18500,18650 & 18650 with a kick. 

• 18350 mode can be achieved by using the longest of the three tubes this is also known as the main tube, where you'll find your laser engraved logos and serial number.

• 18500 mode is achieved by attaching the shortest of the three tubes to the main tube.

• 18650 mode is achieved by attaching the medium size tube to the main tube.

• 18650 + kick is achieved by attaching the shortest of the tubes on top of a fully assembled 18650 setup.

The threading is ok, far from perfect but it all goes together nicely leaving a feint shut line between the tubes.

One thing to note about using the origin in 18500 & 18650+ kick modes is you'll be unable to use the Aqua atomiser in Hybrid mode.

SWITCH AND LOCKING RING

The switch & locking ring comprises of seven separate parts, fire button, spring, locking ring, switch base, knurled nut, contact pin & insulator. these parts combined make up the switch and locking mechanism.

The switch & locking ring are again 21mm in diameter, it all looks nice and sleek when attached to the mod but this is also where using the locking ring becomes impractical.
For a start it's not reversed threaded, so it's very easy to undo the entire switch from the mod, it's also very thin and quite fiddly to use.

The switch also features adjustable throw, honestly though this feature is really not needed as it just dosent work without the entire switch coming apart at some point.

It's also worth mentioning that when you first receive your origin you take the switch apart and rebuild it ensuring you really tighten up the knurled nut to keep the switch from coming apart over time (check video below for details on how to do this).

If you find you do have some battery rattle simply adjust the insulator on the switch.

OVERALL

I've now had the origin for a few months now and it's in my main rotation (if you've watched my YouTube reviews you'll see I use it a lot) I really only use two atomisers on this mod and they are the trident and aqua, the reason for this is the origin has a 21mm diameter and these atomisers just fit perfectly being 21mm attys, using a 22mm atomiser has a small lip which I find annoying.

Build quality is very good, it's a solid mod when all setup correctly, threading can be a little squeaky when used for the first few weeks but this seams to calm down over time, the finish is a mix of polished stainless and a matt finish, the only niggle is the kick tube has a slightly different finish to the other tubes.   

performance, although I've not much to compare it to, all I can say is it works very well and hasn't let me down since fixing the fire button issue mentioned above.

Using the locking ring is a pain, if it had some form of grip or even slightly wider than the switch base it would be much easier to use.

Having said that, it is a clone...it's only £12 essentially you get what you pay for and that's the risk you take.
